Description

The Barns and attached outbuildings to the north and north-east are a mid-18th century structure consisting of a house and outbuildings. They are built from coursed rubble gritstone and feature quoins, coped gables with moulded kneelers, an intermediate brick stack, and roofs that are a mix of plain tiles and corrugated sheeting, with some areas having stone-slated eaves. The layout is 'L' shaped, with a cottage on the west end that connects to a range of former and existing outbuildings to the north and north-east.

The cottage has two bays and plain openings, including one blocked 18th-century doorway with a massive stone frame. There are two 2-light casements, one of which is located in the blocked doorway. The linked range of outbuildings includes an east building that is advanced. The west building has two bays and was originally designed with two doorways and flanking 2-light flush mullioned windows. One doorway has been blocked to create a window, and there is a missing mullion at the west end.

A stone staircase rises across the front of the west building, providing access to the first floor over a loft doorway that has a quoined surround and a plank door. This staircase also incorporates a dog kennel, a cheese-making cupboard, and a fuel store. The advanced two-bay outbuilding features two light flush mullioned windows on the west end, with the ground floor window partially blocked. It has two doorways with massive surrounds and plank doors. A blocked doorway on the east end has been converted into a window with a cross-frame inside a quoined surround, and there is a single light casement with a flush frame above it. The buildings are listed for their group value.
