Description

Nos 32 and 34, known as E Culpin and Son and Anglia Building Society, along with No 1 Queen Street, is a house that now incorporates shops. It dates from around 1700, with a southern wing that may be later but follows the same design. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with an ashlar front and features a Collyweston stone slate roof. It has brick ridge and end stacks, with the eastern stack truncated, and a north lateral stack. The structure is L-shaped, consisting of two storeys and an attic.

The north front has a four-window range, while the west front also has a four-window range. There is a raised band between the storeys, a cornice, and deep bracketed eaves. On the north front, the ground floor includes an ovolo-moulded croisé window, a 20th-century shop front, a door replacing a window, and a 19th-century shop with a door beneath a hood. The first floor features four croisé windows, with the westernmost being blind. A gabled dormer with decorative barge-boards is present above.

On the west front, the ground floor has a 19th-century shop window, a tripartite sash window, an early 19th-century bow window, a six-panelled door (two panels glazed), and a three-light casement window with glazing bars. The first floor includes a 19th-century sash window in a lengthened opening, a croisé window, and two two-light casement windows with overlights that give the appearance of croisé windows in wood. The roof is lit by three dormers, two of which are gabled and one hipped, along with a skylight.
