Description

A row of former cottages, now a single house, dated 1765 with the initials HCE carved on a plaque above the left-hand door, with the right bays added slightly later. The building is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble with Uppingham stone quoins, and has a slate roof with a coped gable to the left, plus white brick chimneys flanking the main block and a red brick chimney to the right. It is two storeys high and five bays wide, with the two right bays having a slightly lower roofline. The front elevation has a gently undulating appearance. The upper floor has paired, barred wooden casement windows. The ground floor has irregular two and three-light wooden casements. The left-hand section has two windows and a flush-panelled door, all with stone lintels featuring segmental soffits and keyblocks. The central window is topped with a flat stone arch and keyblock, while the two windows to the right have flat stone lintels and keyblocks. There are flanking archways in the central bay, constructed with semi-circular arches, impost blocks and keyblocks incorporating pyramid pendants, all in Uppingham stone. The left archway has a flush-panelled door with a fanlight; the right archway has a 20th-century board door.
