Description
This is a row of three cottages located on Main Street in Lyddington. Nos. 10 and 12 date to the 17th century and were altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. No. 8 is a 19th-century extension. The cottages are constructed of coursed ironstone rubble, with a Welsh slate roof behind raised eaves, red brick chimneys, and stone-coped gables. The row has three 17th-century bays and one and a half 19th-century bays to the right. The left bays feature ironstone windows with ovolo-moulded mullions. These include three- and four-light windows to the ground floor, featuring Tudor hoodmoulds and metal-framed lights; a two-light window with 20th-century plastic lights to the first floor on the left; and a three-light window with a central wooden light to the first floor on the right. The third bay has 20th-century two-light wooden casements with wooden lintels. A 20th-century door with a wooden lintel is located between the left bays, and a 20th-century boarded door is situated between the second and third bays, set within a chamfered stone surround with a four-centred arch. A blocked doorway is located to the left of the third bay. The 19th-century section on the right has 20th-century two-light wooden casements to the first floor, a matching three-light casement below to the right, and a 20th-century half-glazed door to the left. Ground floor openings are topped with stone lintels incorporating keyblocks.
