Description
The Hermytage is a house dated 1668, with a 19th-century extension on the right. It is constructed from dressed ironstone with pale limestone dressings and features a Collyweston slate roof. The building has three ashlar chimneys, each with pairs of square shafts connected by moulded neckings and cornices, located at each gable end and one to the right of the center. The house has two storeys and an attic, consisting of four bays. It includes a chamfered plinth, a moulded first-floor string, and moulded eaves. The stone gable copings are adorned with moulded kneelers. The windows are ovolo-moulded mullions with leaded lights, featuring two-light windows on the first floor, a four-light window on the ground floor to the left, and three two-light and one three-light window on the ground floor to the right. There is a 20th-century door in the second bay, framed by a shouldered architrave surround. The 19th-century bay to the right has a slate roof with a coped gable and a brick chimney, a three-light window with a cambered pale limestone head on the ground floor, and a two-light wooden casement on the upper floor. Inside, there is a moulded stone fireplace with a four-centred arch and cornice in the left room.
