Description

The Whitmee tomb at Baptist Chapel is a shrine tomb dated 1869, created by the stonemason Swann. It is made of stone and features a fine miniature shrine with a hipped roof, columns at each corner, and a cross on top. The central square pier has inscriptions dedicated to Mary Whitmee, who died in 1869, and her husband William, who died in 1877. The tomb is similar in style to the Swann tomb located in the churchyard of St. Peter and is inscribed on the side with the stonemason's name, Swann. It is included for its group value.
