Description
The stable block, formerly a canal warehouse, dates from the early 19th century, while the lodge and gate piers are from the mid-19th century. The stable block is constructed of coursed squared rubble stone and features a hipped Welsh slate roof. It has two storeys and a basement, with five small windows that have brick cambered lintels. The basement windows are blocked, and the upper floor is boarded. At the rear, there are various stable and garage doors and windows, along with a first-floor door that has a winch. To the right, there is a small, square, one-storey lodge made of ashlar stone, topped with a slate pyramid roof. The lodge has an 8/8 sash window at the front and a three-light stone Tudor mullion window, with a similar style door to the left. Between the stable block and the lodge, there is a small section of wall and a pair of stone gate piers. This site was once the wharf on the former Oakham-Leicester canal.
