Description

A pair of cottages dating from around 1858, designed by William Butterfield for Viscount Downe. The cottages are built of red brick with decorative blue-black brick bands, and have a half-hipped roof covered in plain tiles, with a brick ridge stack. The main facade faces the rear of the property. The two-story cottages have 4 six-pane sashes on each floor, with two half-dormers with six-pane sashes above. A decorative, wide band on the first floor features a zig-zag pattern, with a nogged band underneath. Diapering decorates the gable ends, along with an eight-pane sash and a door. The side facing Woodside has single-light windows, with one-story extensions featuring doors and two half-dormers with six-pane sashes above. The windows have cambered lintels.
