Description

The Old Hall is a large house, part of which dates back to 1773, but it is mainly a mid-Victorian country house. The older section faces the street and is built from coursed rubble, consisting of two storeys and probably four bays. The right-hand end features a flat-roofed, full-height Victorian bay window projection with two-light sash windows on each floor. To the left, there are various three and two-light casements with quoins and stone arched heads with keys on each floor. Further left, a Victorian service wing projects, which includes a full-height flat porch at the angle.

The front of the Victorian section faces west and is made of rusticated coursed squared rubble with ashlar dressings, also two storeys high. The outer gables have distinctive features, with the left gable containing a full-height canted bay window and the right gable featuring a full-height squared bay window, each with a four-light mullioned and transomed window on both floors. The gables are coped and corbelled out. Recessed between the gables are two central bays; the left bay has a high mullioned and transomed window on the ground floor and a small light above it, while the right bay has a single-storey flat-roofed projection with a three-light mullioned window, a four-centred arched doorway, and a recess. Above this projection is a four-light lattice-paned mullioned window. The building features quoins and string courses throughout. To the right, there is a recessed service wing with relieving arches over various stone arched openings.

Inside, the older section contains various spine beams from the 18th century, while the Victorian part boasts sumptuous oak-panelled rooms and a large galleried staircase.
