Description

The Manor House is a house, now used as studio workshops for Uppingham School. The main block of the house dates from the 17th century, with a rear wing added in the 18th century. A further addition was made to the rear in the 19th century, running parallel to the main block. The house is built of coursed rubble, with a brick west gable end to the 19th-century addition. The roofs are covered in Collyweston stone slates, with coped gables and moulded stone ridge and end stacks, most of which are replacements.

The main block is two storeys and an attic, with a three-window front. A door, set between the central and left-hand bays, is within a hipped-roofed porch with a Tudor arch in a square surround, and a hood mould above. The ground floor has tripartite sash windows with a 2/2:6/6:2/2 pane arrangement, set beneath chamfered timber lintels. The first floor has three-light casements with glazing bars, also beneath timber lintels. There are three hipped dormers, each with a 2-light casement opening containing leaded panes.

The rear wing is two storeys high and has ridge and end stacks. It features sash and casement windows with glazing bars. A quatrefoil window in a square surround, located on the first floor, was likely brought from another location. The 19th-century addition is a tall, two-storey structure with mullioned and transomed windows.
