Description
The Rectory is a large house that likely originated in the late 16th century and was extended in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of coursed rubble and has two storeys. The front features a pair of gables facing the street, with a central doorway that includes an overlight. The right-hand gable has 12-light sash windows with architraves, while earlier openings are also visible. The left-hand gable has flat quoins to its sashes. A central brick stack, possibly the original stack from the 16th century, is located between the roof, and each gable is capped with a moulded stone stack. To the left, there are two hipped wings from the 19th century. The right-hand range is the earlier section, featuring a main facade with a four-window arrangement that includes various wood and stone mullioned windows. Only one window retains a significant amount of original work, which includes the remains of a flat-splay mullion that has been cut through by a later window. The left-hand range, dating from the 18th century, was extended with additional wings in the 19th century. Inside, there is 19th-century plasterwork.
