Description
Pageant House Post Office is a house and shop dating from the mid-17th century. It is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble and features a thatched roof with coped gables and brick chimneys located at the gables and between the left bays. The building has a cross-passage plan and is 1 and a half storeys tall, comprising three bays. The windows are three-light with ovolo-moulded ironstone mullions; the ground floor windows have casement cornices, while those above are partly set into the thatch. The right bay on the ground floor has been altered to accommodate a 20th-century shop window. There is a small fireplace window and a 20th-century door with a moulded stone surround and casement cornice between the left bays, along with a 20th-century shop door between the right bays. A 20th-century extension has been added to the rear of the right bay. Inside, there is a fireplace with a cambered wooden lintel that backs onto the cross-passage, and a winder stair aligned with the fireplace. The building features chamfered spine beams, with the beam in the right bay having moulded stops.
