Description

Ye Olde House is a house dated 1647, as indicated by a tablet below the chimney on the right gable end. The house was refronted in the early 19th century and raised in the 20th century. The right gable end features coursed ironstone and limestone rubble, with large limestone quoins and a gable verge. The front is refaced in ironstone ashlar, with flush bands of brown Uppingham stone, while the rear is made of rubble stone and raised with concrete blocks in the 20th century, topped with concrete gable copings and a roof of 20th-century interlocking concrete tiles. There is a red brick chimney on the right and a white brick chimney near the left end. The house is two storeys high with two and a half bays. The front has a chamfered plinth and 20th-century three-light barred wooden casements. There is a similar single light window in the centre of the ground floor, with the lower windows featuring a stone lintel band and keyblocks. To the left, there is a small 20th-century wooden window and a 20th-century door set in a moulded 17th-century stone surround, which has a four-centred arch and a casement cornice, with the frieze inscribed "Ye Olde House." There is also a single-storey 19th-century ashlar extension to the left, which has a corrugated iron roof, a 20th-century door, and a blocked single light window with a keyblock. The interior has not been seen.
