Description

The village well in Greetham is a former water source from the mid 19th century, constructed of ashlar stone and designed in the Gothic style. It stands approximately 3 meters high. The back wall features a shouldered coped gable with an open trefoil design. Below this gable is an inscription tablet, which has a niche underneath that contains a small stone lion's head. On either side of the niche are miniature buttresses and low convex walls that curve forward. There is an opening in the center of the well, and the base has been concreted in the 20th century. The inscription on the tablet reads: "All ye who hither come to drink/Rest not your thoughts below/Remember Jacob's well and think/Whence 'living waters' flow."
