Description
The Herbarium Cave, located adjoining No. 14A on the west side, is a man-made ornamental cave dating from around 1870. It was created for Alderman Thomas Herbert and consists of two rectangular caves at different levels, each measuring approximately 3 meters by 2 meters. Both caves feature rock-cut ledges on three sides, which may have been intended for potted plants. Originally, this cave and others nearby served as garden features within the grounds of Herbert's house in the Ropewalk, which is not included in this listing. The buildings above the caves are not of special interest.
