Description

Nos. 106 to 124 Derby Road are shops and warehouses built in 1898 by G.S. Doughty and John Howitt of Nottingham for J. Wright & Son. The buildings have been altered in the mid and late 20th century. They are constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and feature slate roofs with various stacks, showcasing a Renaissance Revival style. The façade includes polychrome bands, moulded sill and lintel bands on the upper floors, a moulded cornice and frieze, and coped gables with finials on the side bays.

The windows are primarily original sashes with glazing bar top lights, and the first and second floor windows have shaped lintels. The structure is three storeys tall plus attics, comprising ten bays and twenty-four windows arranged in a pattern of 3:2:2:2:3:3:2:2:2:3. The front is symmetrical and slightly stepped. The ground floor features mainly original openings separated by panelled pilasters, with gabled brackets supporting the fascia cornice.

Nos. 110 and 112 have mid 20th century stucco shopfronts, while Nos. 116, 118, and 122 retain largely original shopfronts with recessed side doors and plate glass windows. The central section above has a double bay defined by angle pilasters with gabled caps and a shouldered coped gable, featuring two floors with two tripartite windows. The attics include two tripartite windows with elliptical arched polychrome heads. The side bays have similar window arrangements, with two windows on each floor. The end bays, which project slightly, have angle pilasters with gabled caps, tripartite windows, and two-light windows in the attics.
