Description

26 and 28 Upper Parliament Street are shops and offices built in 1901, designed by WD Pratt of Nottingham for WJ Ford, with alterations made in the mid and late 20th century. The buildings are constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and feature slate roofs, showcasing a Renaissance Revival style. The main corner block has three storeys plus attics and consists of two sets of four bays. There are two shopfronts with pink granite surrounds. Above these, two elliptical arched cross casements with decorative heads and voussoirs can be found. To the left, there is an arched overthrow that reads "King's Walk." Above this, four round-arched windows are situated under a cornice, flanked by tourelles with finials. Further up, to the left, a coped gable features a roundel. The left return includes a round-arched doorway and a rusticated shopfront, with four pairs of windows in elliptical arched recesses above. A wrought-iron overthrow with a pendant lamp is also present. Above this, more pairs of windows can be seen. These buildings are part of a larger development that includes the east and west sides of King's Walk.
