Description

This building is a corner shop and office block constructed in 1901 and subsequently altered in the 20th century, designed by WD Pratt of Nottingham. It is built of red brick with ashlar dressings and forms part of a larger development including the east and west sides of King’s Walk. The building is of Renaissance Revival style, standing three stories high plus attic level, with a four-bay front. The ground floor features an altered shopfront with a pink granite surround. Above the shopfront is a cross-mullioned window with a decorated elliptical arched head and voussoirs. The second floor has two round-arched sash windows. The attic has a coped gable, flanked by bartizans with finials, incorporating a small roundel. The right return elevation has a doorway between two shopfronts, all with rusticated surrounds under a cornice. Above the doorway and shopfronts are four elliptical arched recesses containing six plain sash windows, and above these, six similar windows.
