Description

Mevell House and the attached stable block are located in Nottingham and were built in 1877 by TC Hine. The house, now converted into flats, features red brick construction with a rock-faced stone basement, ashlar dressings, and roofs that are gabled and hipped with slate. It has a coped ridge and side wall stacks, a plinth, a first-floor band, and coved plaster eaves. The windows are primarily original glazing bar sashes with moulded ashlar surrounds.

The building stands two storeys high, with a rear basement and attics, and has a three-by-three window arrangement. The street-facing side has a prominent central bay that projects, topped with a shaped gable and finial. An elaborate ashlar doorcase features a round-arched opening flanked by columns, leading to panelled double doors and inner doors with an overlight. Above this, there is a tripartite window flanked by panelled pilasters, and further up, a round-arched window.

The side bays contain round-headed glazing bar French windows in moulded ashlar surrounds with dripmoulds, with single sashes above. There are also box dormers with two lights. The left return features a mullioned and transomed stair window with leaded glazing, and a set-back single bay to the left has a shaped gable, a 20th-century door with a fanlight, and a round-arched mullioned casement above.

The right return includes a canted bay window on the left, which is two storeys high and has a French window with sidelights, with three sashes above. In the centre, there is a similar French window with a sash above, and above that, a box dormer. To the right, there is a projecting end bay with paired windows. The rear of the house has a basement, a square bay window with two French windows and fanlights on the left, and paired windows on the right.

The attached stable block is a single storey with five bays, featuring round-arched openings and a central gable.
