Description
The Silver Arcade, built in 1891, is an arcade of shops located between Silver Street and Cank Street. The interior features three tiers with iron balcony railings. The first tier has stanchions supported on console brackets, plain shop windows, and a glass roof light over a central well.
The elevation facing Silver Street is constructed of ashlar and consists of three storeys and an attic. It has a large round-arch entrance flanked by two-storey bays with pilasters, and an oriel window above. The attic features windows with broken segmental pediments, from which small obelisks rise. The ground floor has two plain modern shops on either side of the entrance.
The Cank Street elevation is also made of ashlar but is simpler in design, featuring an oriel window above a central round-arch entrance. Above this is a wooden attic storey topped with a square cupola. The building has a slate roof.
