Description
Lloyds Bank Limited is a large classical building constructed between 1903 and 1906, designed by the architects Chatwin and Son. The ground floor is made of granite ashlar, while the upper levels are finished in Portland stone. The building features three diminishing storeys and has six windows. The ground floor showcases tall round-arch windows set in rusticated surrounds, supported by Giant Ionic columns that hold up an entablature with a modillion cornice. Above the right-hand doorway, there is a pediment with a semi-circular fanlight.
On the first floor, the windows are pedimented and flanked by attached Corinthian columns, with balustered aprons below. Panelled pilasters are positioned between the windows, topped with a moulded cornice at the second floor window sill level. The second floor windows are moulded and shouldered, with carvings in the pilasters between them and a frieze above that features carved swags and ribbons. The building is capped with a heavy modillion cornice and a parapet, and it has chimneys that also feature moulded cornices.
