Description

The Clock Tower, built in 1868 by Joseph Goddard, is a Grade II listed structure located on Haymarket. Designed in the Gothic style, it is square in plan and features pointed-arch doorways at the base, which are complemented by iron gates. At each corner, there are piers that support statues of Simon de Montfort, William Wiggeston, Sir T. White, and Alderman Newton, all crafted by Samuel Bardfield, with canopies above them. Polished granite shafts with carved capitals rise above the angles of the tower. The exterior is adorned with spiral mouldings that indicate the presence of a staircase inside. The clock face is flanked by pinnacles and topped with a spire.
