Description
Abbey Corner Bridge is a road bridge built in 1878. It is constructed from steel, cast iron, red brick, and features ashlar dressings. The bridge has three spans and a flat arch design, supported by brick abutments and piers. There are two brick piers with blue brick plinths and curved ashlar cutwaters that have rusticated bands. The piers have roll moulded edges on either side, with ashlar bases and caps. These piers extend above the deck and are topped with moulded ashlar caps that feature pseudo-battlemented tops. The abutments have similar broader piers that also rise above the deck and have matching ashlar caps. The deck is supported by broad steel girders with buckle plating that create the three flat spans of the bridge. The sides of the bridge are adorned with alternating cast iron curved brackets and pendants, while the cast iron parapet includes two circular strapwork wheels per panel.
