Description
The South Lodge to Abbey Park at the Slater Street entrance is a lodge built in 1882, designed by James Tait. It features red brick construction with ashlar dressings and timber-framing that includes brick nogging. The roof is hipped and covered with plain tiles, complemented by brick stacks.
The lodge is a single storey with attics. The north-west front has a slightly projecting gabled wing on the left, which includes a boarded 3-light casement window and another similar 3-light window above it, adorned with tile hanging. To the right, there is a tall 2-light boarded casement window set within a framed section featuring brick herring-bone nogging, while a single light window with an ashlar surround is located at the left corner.
On the south-west entrance front, there is a square bay window with brick nogging and a boarded 4-light window, situated above a timber-framed oriel window that has a 5-light casement in a tile-hung gable. A porch with a segment arched doorway and a panel door is positioned at the left corner. The north-east front features a corner window with an ashlar surround to the right, followed by a tall external brick stack and a timber-framed gable that includes a bell canopy. Below this, there is more timber-framing with a 2-light boarded casement window and tile hanging above. The interior was not inspected.
