BISHOP STREET No. 10a Bishop Street Methodist Chapel

(Formerly listed as Wesleyan Chapel, BISHOP STREET)

GV II Dated 1815. Red brick chapel of two storeys with stucco dressings. Five windows, centre breaks forward with three windows, under a pediment. Central round-headed stucco doorcase with moulded pediment and semi-circular fanlight over glazed double doors. Above, the centre window has stucco pilaster strips and an open pediment. All other windows are double-recessed with round brick arches. Six-panel side doors in both side wings, which are recessed. A blind window space over each door has a stucco architrave and cornice, set in a segmental-headed recess. Doors and windows all have round heads with radial glazing bars. Contemporary cast iron gates of fair design, railings have gone.

All the listed buildings in Bishop Street together with The Town Hall, Fountain and War Memorial, Town Hall Square, and Nos 6-8, The Royal Hotel, Nos 17, 19 and 21 Horsefair Street form a group around Town Hall Square.
