Description
Bishop Street Methodist Chapel, dated 1815, is a red brick chapel with two storeys and stucco dressings. It features five windows, with the center section projecting forward and containing three windows beneath a pediment. The central entrance has a round-headed stucco doorcase with a moulded pediment and a semi-circular fanlight above glazed double doors. The central window above the entrance is adorned with stucco pilaster strips and an open pediment. The remaining windows are double-recessed and topped with round brick arches. There are six-panel side doors in both side wings, which are recessed, and a blind window space above each door, featuring a stucco architrave and cornice set in a segmental-headed recess. All doors and windows have round heads with radial glazing bars. The chapel also includes contemporary cast iron gates, although the railings have been removed. This building is part of a group of listed buildings in Bishop Street, which includes The Town Hall, Fountain and War Memorial, Town Hall Square, and Nos 6-8, The Royal Hotel, and Nos 17, 19, and 21 Horsefair Street.
