Description
Cramant Cottages is a terrace of six industrial workers' cottages built around 1820. They are made of red brick with slate roofs and tall chimney stacks. The cottages are two stories high and have a single aspect that faces what was once the rear garden of No 54 King Street. Each cottage features one small window on each floor, equipped with horizontal sliding sashes that have glazing bars. The windows are topped with segmental brick arches, although the ground floor arches are plastered to resemble stone lintels. The doorways have semi-circular arches with inset plastered tympani. Additionally, there are small brick arched openings on the ground floor of each cottage, which were used for ventilating larders or for deliveries. Each cottage consists of one room on each floor, with access to the upper room via a staircase located at one side of the ground floor room. The upper rooms are floored with lime concrete on rushes.
