Description
Nos 2 to 6 on Guildhall Lane are mid-18th century buildings currently being rebuilt behind their original facade as of early 1975. They are constructed of red brick and rise three storeys high. The buildings feature a moulded stone cornice, sills, bands, and chamfered quoins. There are five windows with segmental brick arches and keystones; the original sashes have been replaced on the first floor with modern mullion and transom windows, while the second floor has two-light casements. The ground floor has later 19th-century shop windows, which include a cornice supported by console brackets and pilasters. A modern vehicle entrance is located on the right side. The steep-pitched slate roof has coped gable ends.
Inside, the building has been significantly altered, but there is still a notable plaster ceiling on the first floor with panels and circular centrepieces, along with a moulded and dentilled cornice. Some parts of the ceiling have been covered over.
These buildings, along with Nos 2 to 12 and St Martin's Cathedral and the Guildhall, as well as No 20 Loseby Lane, form a cohesive group.
