Description
42 Silver Street, including the wing at the rear, is a building from the 18th century. It is constructed of painted brick and features a steep-pitched slate roof with gabled ends and paired brackets supporting wide eaves. The building has three storeys and three windows, which have rubbed brick arches and sills. The original sash windows have been replaced with plate glass. On the ground floor, there are two plain modern plate glass shop windows and a plain modern central doorway.
The rear wing is likely from the 16th or 17th century and is timber framed with brick nogging, topped with a corrugated iron roof that has gable ends. This wing has two storeys and has undergone significant alterations. It features a continuous first-floor window on the east side. Inside, there is a chamfered ceiling beam and arched brackets supporting a curved tie beam, which are exposed in the first-floor room, while the remaining roof trusses are not visible.
42 Silver Street, along with 44 Silver Street and 31 Loseby Lane, forms a group of buildings.
