Description
The former Midland Bank, located at No 1 St Peter's Street, was built around 1910 in a Classical style. The building is constructed of ashlar and features three storeys and an attic. It has five sash windows without glazing bars, set in moulded architraves with pediments; the central window has a segmental pediment, and all windows have panels below them. There are sill bands, and the third storey windows have dog-eared architraves and bracketed sills. A modillion cornice is present at the first floor, while the ground storey is rusticated and has four semi-circular headed windows. The doorway is located on the left-hand side and is framed by a carved surround with an entablature that includes a swagged cartouche and cornice. The building is topped with a dentilled modillion eaves cornice, which is surmounted by an open balustrade, and it has a slate roof with iron brattishing at the apex.
