Description
Northcliffe House, dated 1860, is located on Albert Street. This building features a stucco finish and consists of a circular corner block with a large two-storey wing on the left and a three-storey, two-window wing that extends along the return side in Exchange Street. The left-hand wing, which has some parts obscured by later additions, includes nine windows with semi-circular moulded stone heads, dentilled eaves, and a hipped slate roof. The circular corner block is three storeys high and topped with a large cupola that has a ball finial. It has three tall semi-circular headed openings, with the side openings partly obscured by later additions, all featuring elaborate figure-head keyblocks. Balconies above the windows are connected by a cornice and band, supported on enriched consoles. The central entrance has a swagged vase above a modern inset door. Northcliffe House was originally the Palais de Dance.
