Description

The building is a former tramway office, listed as a Grade II structure, located at No 4 Victoria Street. It was constructed in 1903, designed by Alexander MacPherson for the Derby Tramway Company, and built by Messrs Ford & Co. The building features red brick with ashlar banding and dressings, plain tile roofs, and a polished marble plinth. It stands four storeys tall.

The facade is irregular, with an altered ground floor beneath a projecting canopy. To the right, there is an original doorway framed by a deeply chamfered ashlar surround, topped with an oval overlight, and a small casement window in an ashlar surround. The left end of the building has a canted corner with a panelled door in an ashlar surround, accompanied by a two-light overlight and a plaque inscribed "TRAMWAY OFFICE," which is topped by a pediment featuring a circular opening.

The upper section includes a canted bay window with an octagonal tower and a copper domed roof. The main facade has three windows on the left side, consisting of three-light, single light, and three-light casements on the first and second floors. Above, there is a set-back balcony with a three-light window supported by scroll brackets, and to the right, a four-light dormer window set in a hipped roof with an octagonal cupola. On the right side, two single light casement windows are positioned at different levels, topped with a gable and an elaborate Venetian window. The gable features ashlar coping and scroll kneelers, with a segmental pediment at the apex that has a deeply set plaque inscribed "1903." Additionally, there is a very narrow bay set at an angle on the right, with a single light casement window on each floor, topped with an oval window framed by an elaborate ashlar surround.
