Description
The County Court, built in the late 19th century, is a two-storey building with a basement, constructed of red brick and yellow terra cotta. It features seven mullioned transomed windows with cusped pointed arched lights, all set in keyed terra cotta surrounds, and linked by head and sill bands. The building has two slightly projecting bays, each containing two three-light windows with pilasters on either side that rise above the first and second storeys, culminating in a parapet. Each bay is topped by a carved lion holding a shield. The gables have a three-light window within a segmental headed surround, complete with hood moulds, and the apex of each gable is elaborately carved with foliage and raised lettering stating "Inland Revenue and County Court," each topped with a branched finial. There are two doorways with moulded terra cotta surrounds, the central doorway featuring a hood that forms a gable and a fleur-de-lis finial, along with a semi-circular arched traceried fanlight. The building has a green slate roof. The interior remains largely unaltered and includes two courtrooms.
