Description

Elm Cottage is a late 16th century or early 17th century cottage that has undergone significant alterations. It is constructed of painted brick and stands two storeys high. The cottage features one casement window with a horizontal sliding sash and a plain doorway. The roof is thatched, and there is a small one-storey lean-to bay at the rear, both of which are covered with corrugated asbestos. To the right side, there is a plain 19th century two-storey addition that has one plain casement window and a tiled roof. Elm Cottage is part of a group that includes Nos 1, 3 and Church Farmhouse on Church Street in Alvaston.
