Description
Stables and attached outbuildings at Alvaston Fields date from the late 18th century. They are constructed of red brick and feature tiled roofs, arranged in an L-shaped plan. The minor wing at the rear of the east end connects to the north wing, which is partly demolished. The west wing has a hipped roof at the south end and is two storeys tall, with a cogged brick eaves cornice and a rendered plinth. This wing consists of six bays, with the fourth bay slightly projecting and featuring a gable designed as a steeply pitched pediment, interrupted by a large blank arched recess. The ground floor bays contain doors or horned sash windows, all set under cambered arches. The smaller first-floor windows are either blocked, shuttered, or open. The projecting bay has double doors beneath a three-centred arch. The west wall facing the street is mostly blank, except for a loft door at the north end, and there is a brick stack present. The south wall features a circular window for the loft. The north wing has a gabled east end, and there is a large carriageway with a three-centred arch near the junction with the west wing, along with a lower extension of the wing to the east.
