Description

The Poplars is an early 19th-century building located on Elvaston Lane in Alvaston. It is constructed of stucco with a stone base and stands two storeys tall. The façade features three sash windows, which do not have glazing bars on the ground storey, and are accented with stone bands and keyblocks. A central pillared porch is adorned with reeded columns decorated with crossed ribbons, and it has a canopy with a cornice above a glazed door that includes a rectangular fanlight. The building has plain overhanging eaves and a hipped slate roof. On the side elevation, there is an iron ornamental feature attached to the wall, which displays a shield of arms backed by crossed swords and a belt, with a lion rampant positioned above.
