Description
The gates, gate piers, and flanking walls at Chevet Gates are notable features that once served Chevet Hall, which has since been demolished. Constructed from ashlar and cast iron, the structure includes eight stone piers that decrease in height towards the outer edges. These piers are designed with rusticated stonework, cornices, and caps. The piers flanking the gates originally had bases intended for sculptures of dogs, which have since been removed. The pair of gates features a circular motif with dog rails and several spiked finials. Above the gates, there is an overthrow that holds a carriage lamp. On either side of the gates, there are segmental bays with similar railings and smaller gates that display oval and St. Andrew's cross motifs. The outer two piers are complemented by an ashlar wall topped with chamfered coping.
