Description
The former ventilating tower, built in 1818, is located approximately 3 meters to the south-west of the south-west wing of the former paupers' lunatic asylum at Stanley Royd Hospital. It was designed by Watson and Pritchett of York for the West Riding County Council. The tower is constructed of white brick in an irregular bond, featuring projecting stone bands and a cap-stone. It has one blocked opening with a wood lintel and another opening fitted with a metal grille. This tower was used to draw cold air into the asylum. It is included in the listing for its group value context.
