Description

No. 20 Rishworth Street is a pair of houses built around 1840. They are constructed of red-brown brick in an irregular Flemish garden wall bond and feature a Welsh slate roof. The buildings are two storeys high and consist of three bays across. Each house has a central doorway that is accessed by a step, with an overlight and a wooden doorcase that includes pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice (the frieze and cornice of No. 2's doorcase have been removed). No. 20 has a six-panel door with the upper panels raised and fielded, while No. 2 has a 20th-century board door. The windows are topped with slightly cambered brick arches, have projecting stone sills, and contain two-pane sashes. The central first-floor window of No. 20 has been bricked up, and the windows of No. 2, except for the left-hand bay, are similarly altered. The tops of the cellar windows of No. 20 are visible. The roof is hipped over No. 2, with chimney stacks located at the right end of No. 20, on the front roof slope of No. 20, and aligned in the rear roof slope. This building is shown on the 1848 Wakefield plan and is included for its group value.
