Description
The Magistrates Court, located on Cliff Parade and including No 26 King Street, is a building from the early 19th century that underwent restoration in the late 19th century. It features a main front that is two stories high with seven windows. The structure is made of ashlar stone and has a banded ground floor, a first-floor cill string, and a top entablature with a bracketed cornice and blocking course. The sash windows are adorned with moulded lintels on the first floor and architraves below, both supported by console bracketed cornices. The ground floor friezes display a pattern of chains. An ornamental doorway is highlighted by a keystone featuring a mask of a bearded police officer, who has a stern yet benign expression and wears a traditional helmet. The building extends back to Gill Street and has additional extensions to King Street.
