Description

The sheep dip, located in the bend of the road south of the entrance to The Croft, is likely from the 18th century. It is constructed from well-coursed and dressed rubble. The structure features a rectangular walled enclosure with an entrance on the north side and an exit on the south side, which leads to a wide sunk stone trough. This trough has a groove for overflow that directs water to the east side, leading to the river bed of a stream, which is bordered by low stone walls and has an exit channel at the south-east corner. Historically, this sheep dip was used by the village farms, but it is now partly overgrown, and the river bed is dry.
