4/110 Lodge to Woolley Hall 27.5.76 including walling, piers, gate piers and gates

Gates, gate piers and flanking curtain walls with lodge (ruinous) to rear. c1820 by Jeffry Wyatt for Godfrey Wentworth Wentworth of Woolley Hall (q.v.). Ashlar and cast-iron. Tall gate piers with Doric corner pilasters, frieze, cornice and blocking course. Lower flanking ornamental round-arched pedestrian gateways to which are attached curved quadrant walls with panelled ashlar piers with shaped tops (only those to right survive). Ornamental cast-iron carriage and pedestrian gates. Small lodge behind southern quadrant has main surviving feature of doorway with architrave, apron and enrichment with 3 panels with a raised shield to centre. Flanking ashlar piers have recessed panels.

Interior of lodge: 4 rooms aligned to the curve of the outer wall have some standing walls and remains of 2 fireplaces. Linking passage has remains of brick barrel vault. The original drawing is illustrated in G. Markham, Woolley Hall, The Historical Development of a Country House (1979) p47.
