Description

This is a house, now divided into two dwellings, built in 1683. It was initially constructed by the Norton family as the Dower House to Kettlethorpe Hall. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof, which has been tarred. It has two storeys and a two-cell plan, with direct entry to the first cell and a double-depth design. Quoins are present.

The first cell has a Tudor-arched doorway with composite jambs and a chamfered surround, to the left of a four-light double-chamfered mullioned window. The reveals are almost square, with two mullions having been removed, and all are set under a continuous cyma-moulded dripcourse. A former two-light window is positioned above. The second cell has inserted doorways and a dripcourse to the ground-floor window. The gables are coped, with kneelers. There is an external stack to the left gable, and another stack is set into the front pitch of the second cell.

Inside, the building features stop-chamfered spine beams. A datestone, likely originally part of a fireplace lintel, is located in the rear room of the first cell.
