Description
Woodside Methodist Sunday School and Hall is a Methodist school and attached chapel, now used as a meeting room and hall. The school dates from the early 19th century, while the chapel is dated 1839 on its north side and has been altered. The building is constructed of coursed squared sandstone, with roofs made of slate and stone slate. It has an L-plan layout, with the school set back and facing the road, and the chapel attached at the right-hand end, gabled towards the road.
The school has a rectangular plan, is single-storey, and consists of five symmetrical bays. It features an altered doorway in the center and two windows on a higher level on each side. All openings are round-headed with imposts and keystones. The doorway now has jambs only on the upper half, while the windows have raised sills and dressed heads but lack jambs. The windows are sashed with glazing bars, arched in the upper leaf, and there are small gutter brackets. The roof is hipped, and similar windows are present at the rear and left end.
The chapel has four larger but similar windows, with dressed jambs on the second window. Above this window is a carved stone plaque with a scrolled surround, inscribed: "This Wesleyan Methodist Chapel was Erected by Voluntary Subscription 1839." There are five similar windows in the rear wall. The interiors of both parts have been altered.
