Convalescent hospital. c1890. By Chorley and Connon. Stone, render and mock timber-frame, slate roof. Arts and Crafts style. Central 3-storey, 3-bay reception block has coursed stone ground floor with cambered arch and cross windows, rendered 1st floor with central oriel, paired black-and-white gables above each with a 5-light casement, that to right now 3-light. The upper gables are rendered and jettied. Flanking angled single-storey wings each have 4 projecting gabled open verandas, now walled up and glazed, mock timbering in apex of each gable. INTERIOR: not inspected. A plaque in the rear entrance hall states that the building was given by Mr and Mrs North for the use of patients of Leeds General Infirmary in memory of their daughter, Ida. An architects' drawing in The Builder, 17 March 1888 shows a larger and more richly decorated version of the building.
