Description
The stables and coach house, now used as a garage, is located immediately north of Carr Manor House and was built in 1881 by E.S. Prior. Constructed from dressed millstone grit with a stone slate roof, the building features two storeys and five bays in the Vernacular Revival style. It has a central gabled elliptical-arched carriage entrance with timber-framing inside the arch above the doors, along with stone mullion windows. The eaves are coved and include timber-framing and rough-cast panels. A ventilation cupola with a lead-clad ogee dome is situated at the center of the ridge. On the right side, the south gable end displays a reset datestone reading 'IO 1796' (Joseph Oates), along with a corbelled and gabled stone dovecot and a tall square chimney stack above. The interior has not been inspected. This building was originally constructed as stables and a coach house for Carr Manor House.
