Description

Circus Circus Public House, also known as The Jubilee Hotel, is a public house and offices built in 1904 and altered in the 20th century, designed by Thomas Winn. It features a brick and terracotta exterior with a slate roof, which includes two large chimney stacks topped with plain cylindrical pots. The building stands four storeys high with an attic and occupies a corner site, presenting four bays to the Headrow and two bays to Park Cross Street.

The facades have glazed doors with scrolled pediments at the center of each side and at the corner, where 'THE JUBILEE' is displayed in raised letters above the entrance. The ground and first floors feature 3-light windows set in a round-arched arcade, while the second and third floors have sash windows. The first and fourth bays are slightly bowed and topped with a balustraded parapet above dentilled eaves, with a central dormer and flanking chimneys. The corner tower includes a plaque above the entrance and oval windows adorned with swags on the third storey, along with attached columns and a dome.

On the right return, there is a central doorway similar to the corner entrance, flanked by 3-light windows, with 3- and 2-light windows above and a gable featuring a 3-light window above the eaves. The interior was replanned and refitted in the late 20th century, but circular columns supporting the upper floor may be original. This public house is noted as Leeds' only remaining gin palace and was originally called the Jubilee Hotel, catering to the lower middle classes.
