Description
The Town Hall forecourt wall in Leeds is a retaining wall built in 1936, designed by JC Proctor. It is constructed from Bramley Fall sandstone with steps made of Elland Edge stone. The wall measures approximately 70 meters long towards The Headrow, including a break for steps, and 40 meters towards Oxford Place. At the corner, it stands about 3 meters high, tapering down as the ground rises. The wall features massive blocks, rusticated lower courses, heavily moulded ashlar masonry above, and cylindrical terminals. The construction was carried out by JT Wright and Sons, builders from Leeds, at a cost of £10,000.
