Description

15 and 17 High Court Lane are houses that have been converted into storerooms. They date from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with alterations made to the northern end (No. 15) between 1847 and 1866. The buildings are constructed of red brick in English and random bond, topped with a grey slate roof. They rise to three storeys, with one first-floor window for each house. The ground floor features 20th-century openings, while the windows on the top floor have cambered arches and are positioned just below the eaves. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, this area was significant at the time of construction, having been developed since at least the early 18th century, located near the west side of the parish church and east of the National School, which was built in 1812 and later demolished. No. 17 is likely part of the merchant's house at No. 19. The area saw a decline as a residential neighborhood during the 19th century, particularly after the railway line was built in 1869. There are claims that the buildings may contain medieval fabric, possibly including stone-built cellars. They were noted as lodging houses on the Insurance map of 1902.
