Description

No. 19 High Court Lane is a house that has been converted into a warehouse. It dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with some alterations made in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of rendered brick and has a grey slate roof with a large chimney stack on the right side. It stands three storeys tall and features three first-floor windows, which are 4-pane sashes with slightly cambered arched heads. The central window is narrower, and there are smaller windows just below the eaves on the second floor. The entrance has a central door with an overlight and is flanked by canted bay windows. At the rear, there is a stair window on the left and a 12-pane sash window on the top story to the right, with a 20th-century frame below.

Historically, this site has been significant, located just west of the parish church and near the river wharves, with occupation dating back to at least the early 18th century. The group of buildings that includes Nos. 15, 17, and 21 was likely constructed as a complex for a merchant's house, workers' housing, and a warehouse in the late 18th century. The National School, built in 1812, was situated just to the east, indicating a possible connection to this house. The area began to decline as a residential neighborhood during the 19th century, especially after the railway viaduct was built in 1869. By 1902, the building was functioning as a lodging house, at which point the bay windows had already been added.
