Description
Weavers' Court is a row of two-storey weavers' dwellings with a third-storey communal loom room above, along with stables, now converted into four houses. This building dates from the late 18th century and underwent conversion in the late 20th century. It features finely coursed stone, a low-pitched hipped stone slate roof, and small paired eaves brackets. The windows are primarily two-light, with a three-light window above the archway, all having plain stone lintels, sills, and mullions. The top-hinged casements have replaced the original fixed-light windows.
On the ground floor, there are three doorways with plain stone surrounds and six-panel doors. To the right, there is a two-storey rusticated carriageway with an elliptical arch, keyblock, and moulded impost. Inside the carriageway, there is a trapdoor with a hoist leading to the loom room above. At the rear, adjoining at right angles behind No. 159, is the former stables, which has a low-pitched stone slate roof. It features a first-floor central loft door flanked by fixed-light multi-pane windows. The ground floor has two larger two-light multi-pane fixed-light windows with plain stone sills, lintels, and mullions, along with two doorways and wide double doors to the left. The interior has not been inspected. This building is an important example of a group of weavers' dwellings and a loom room.
